DamproofingA leaking wall was caused by very poor drainage, removal of a rooted deck revealed a granular fill on top of an old patio slab that was also tipped towards the foundation causing a direct funnel effect for any moisture to enter through the cracks in the basement wall and also migrating under the concrete floor to cause very damp conditions inside the home.
The wall was excavated to the footing.
Torch on membrane pieces were applied with heat over the cracks in the basement wall.
The wall was then sprayed with a damp-proofing coating.
The space was then backfilled and tamped to a positive drainage grade, surface sealed with powdered bentonite and landscaping bricks were placed over it. If the area settles a bit it is possible to then take up the bricks and re-grade the area without high costs..
